How to Write an ABOUT ME Page That Sells
Writing about yourself can be a little awkward and uncomfortable, but it doesn’t have to be. You can write an amazing “About Me” page that connects and converts, but doesn’t sound salesy or braggy.
This page is so super important, and is usually one of the most visited pages on your website. What you say on this page can really make an impact on your visitors, and it can pull them in, connecting them with how you can solve their problem, or not—many times unfortunately, it's not.
Sometimes people use this page to give a little history about their business, or give their reasons and values for being in their business, and sometimes even their whole life story. Some may find this interesting, but few will connect with your story unless you can write it in a way that tells your reader, “Hey, you’re in the right place. This is a story about how we connect.”
Here is a classic About Me page from a wedding venue.
Here’s how I re-wrote it, only using details I picked out from the original but reframed it to connect with the ideal client (the bride).
If you were a bride looking for a wedding venue, which one would you feel more connected with?
Want to know more? Let’s break it down into 4 easy steps.
Give your page a headline that doesn't say: “Meet the Team,” “A Little About Us”, or “Our Story.” Your readers are already here, so don't waste precious headline space telling them something they already know. Instead, say something bold and attention grabbing or, speak to their problems or, give them a solution.
Reassure and Empathize. Your readers want to know they are in the right place. They come to your About Me page not so much to find out about you, but more to find out if they connect with you. Have you experienced the same pain points they have? Do you know what they are going through?
Show your readers they can trust you. Here you get to brag on yourself just a little, but don't make it about you- frame these statement in such a way that it shows how you can make life better for your reader. Some great ways to do this:
Your USP (Unique Selling Proposition)
Testimonials
Solve their problem - Tell your reader how you are going to solve their problem
And finally, share a little personal information about yourself or your team. Highlight your key team players or yourself Again, share things that will connect you to your readers— a little personality or humor, your values. Keep it really short- only a few sentences!
And that’s it! Now go write an awesome ABOUT ME page!
